As the whole world is encountering the coronavirus pandemic situation which has resulted the cessation and postpone of many athletic events worldwide and Hong Kong’s is not an exception. Hence, virtual race becomes one of the options for people to keep up the spirit in healthy life style and to maintain a good physical health condition in order to face the challenges from the pandemic.
On 21st February 2021, the IPA (Hong Kong Section) held the virtual race (5km) event at the Shatin Sports Ground in Hong Kong in encouraging members to participate in a meaningful event - the IPA Virtual Race (international) held between 14th to 21st February 2021.
This virtual race (5Km) did not held only in keeping up the spirit and maintaining members’ good health, but also extending the objectives to promote positive family values as well as to engage youth who were in needs of life guidance.
In the event, the Honorary Presidents and President of IPA (Hong Kong Section) had graciously sponsored sports coupons to those participated in the event. 15 sports coupons were awarded to those completed the run with best records. The best record of male participant was awarded to Mr. LAU Kam-fai who made the 5km run in 18 minutes 12 seconds. The best record of female participant was awarded to Ms. Anita YING who made the 5km run in 30 minutes 18 seconds.
In order to promote positive family values among members of the IPA (Hong Kong Section), a special category – parent and child participation in the 5km race was employed and the families of Mr. CHAN and Mr. WONG were awarded by completing the 5km race in 25 minutes and 38 seconds and 33 minutes and 36 seconds respectively.
Moreover, engaging youth was one of the objectives in this meaningful event; hence, the youth who were undergoing the Police Superintendent’s Discretion Scheme from West Kowloon Region, New Territory South Region, and New Territory North Region in Hong Kong were invited to participate in the race. 11 youth partnered with their Police mentors in completing the 5km race were awarded with the sports coupons. We believed that the achievement of finishing the 5km race would definitely encourage them to complete the Scheme and to continue to run on the right path in life.
The event was fulfilled with lots of joyful moments and it would not be completed successfully without the fabulous supports from the Honorary Presidents, the President, the Executive Committee Members and the Coordination Officers. In the future, we would organise more sports events in promoting healthy life style as well as building friendship locally and internationally for the IPA community.
